Brgy. San Guillermo used to be a Sitio of Brgy. Cangcosme and was known as Kabungaan during the earlier days. It was Rev. Father Guillermo Viacrucis Villegas, son of then Division Superintendent of Leyte, Vicente Villegas and Maria Viacrucis, who introduced San Guillermo as the patron saint of the barangay and renamed it as Brgy. San Guillermo. Its seashores had been conducive to a lot of edible marine life, one of which is the bakasi which is a kind of eel. And the “Catching” has begun… Ang ika duhang Adlaw sa Bakasi. kick off with the Bakasi Catching Contest participated by the local bakasi catcher veterans and facilitated by the personnel of KABALIKAT Civicom 397, Palompon Chapter, Karancho Palompon Chapter, Class Bagtikan Naval Reservist, PERT and SGNHS QRT. The bakasi catching contest started at 10 in the evening and ended at exactly 7:00 in the morning on the following day The barangay officials headed and barangay folks organized a Bakasi festival featuring a cooking contest with bakasi as the main ingredient for the recipes. The festival was a crowd drawer. Guests and tourists flocked the barangay and enjoyed the bakasi eating fest. The event was graced by Mayor Ramon C. Oñate, Vice Mayor Dra. Myra Georgina L.
